For the past 14 years I have been managing my whitetail population - only mature bucks have been harvested along with mature does, to keep the buck/doe ratio in balance.

Hunting during the rut is a great time in East Texas and I strongly suggest you get in early and book a date, as it is first-come, first serve at that productive time of the year.

Deer hunters are allowed one buck 8 pts and must be wider than the ears on the inside spread - (minimum of 15 inches on the outside spread)

There is a $500 fee for shooting a buck NOT meeting minimum requirements

I also allow them to take one hog on the hunt.

We offer weekends or weekday hunts.

New upgraded air-conditioned / heated bedrooms, bathrooms / kitchen with modern cooking facilities are included.

Meals can be prepared for groups for an extra fee.

Cleaning of the animals is included. We quarter up the animals, wrap and freeze them (or put the animals in the hunter's ice chest if there's not enough time for it to freeze before departure.)

Whitetail deer hunts are $1,500 for a for day hunt.

White Oak Outfitters is located 100 miles east of Dallas, in Franklin County.

End of story. Like taxes and death, you can count on two things when talking about mature bucks: they move most at dawn and dusk, and during the rut.

Deer are crepuscular. It’s built into their DNA. It doesn’t matter what month of the year you are talking about, pretty much every study out there shows that the time of day bucks are most active is at sunrise and sunset.

Can you kill a mature buck during the middle of the day? Sure. But if you want to hedge your bet, be in a stand during those magic hours. And the time of year they are most active is...? You guessed it, the breeding season.

Keep these things in mind when trying to predict when that buck you’re after will be on his feet.
